Welcome to our new family blog Newsom Tales. Gail and Carol Newsom are moving back to Portland after having spent the school months of the past four years in Kennewick, Washington; Aberdeen, WA; West Palm Beach, Florida, and Poulsbo, Washington. The summers were spent traveling to family reunions in Utah, where Gail's four children live with their families, (Steve and Sue are in Tacoma, WA) and Temple, Oklahoma, where Gail grew up and where his 95 year old mother and 2 sisters, Dorothy and Marsha and their families live.
Carol and Gail were married September 19, 2009, in the LDS Temple in Portland, after meeting on LDS Planet, a church singles website in Dec., 2008, meeting in Salt Lake in April, 2009, and deciding to join forces and forming a family. After a honeymoon in Kauai, a reception was held on October 17, 2009.
Now Carol is retiring from Speech/Language Pathology in the schools for the 3rd time. I began my teaching career in September, 1965, in the Gresham School Dist., going to Newberg next, then specializing in Speech Pathology, working at the Washington County IED in Hillsboro for 4 years, before working in the Portland Schools until retiring in 1998. I tried being a travel agent after that, but timing was definitely wrong. Hopefully Gail and I will be able to travel and do a few of the things we want to do while we are still healthy.
Carol has two children: Paul and Samuel.
Paul Michael and Kelli are new parents. Paul Anthony was born 5 weeks early at 8:40 on April 23, 2013, weighing in at only 5 pounds, 15 oz and 21 inches long. He developed jaundice and had to return to the hospital 2 days later. As I write this he is 8 pounds 4 oz and doing very well.
Gail has 5 children: Steve, Becky, Mike, Rachel and Bill; 14 grandchildren which I share with him: Joe and Scot Newsom, Kimberly and Nathan Piirainen, Warren, Carlton, Lee, Lydia, and Emily Newsom, Josh, Scott, Skyler, Breanna and Ryan Manthai. Breanna gave us our first great granddaughter, Peighton, age 1 1/2 years and another on the way.
Samuel is returning from a 3 month trip to Europe in June. He met friends in Germany, Paris and Barcelona, Spain and did some traveling in Italy and Sicily, Prague and Berlin. We are anxious to hear about all his adventures.
